Stories from Old English Class Handouts
I have been hanging out with storytellers all my life. And I have been a storyteller all my life. I remember mom scolding me when I was very young because my versions of events didn't match reality. I also remember being so excited by the way things might have happened that I couldn't wait to tell someone. Though I tried to follow mom's advice, it seemed nearly impossible. I recall telling my playmates one day, "It didn't really happen this way, but I saw ..." I suppose I was an early convert to Mark Twain's maxim: never let the truth stand in the way of a good story. The tales above are in various stages of completion. Behind each story is a story, and I'll try to tell the bit that I know. The goal here is to preserve some of the past, and to give our children a notion of the way their parents wrote and thought long ago. Who knows? Maybe with some interest and prodding a few of these tales might get completed after all these years. |
