A Haiku Collection
For Valentine's Day
by
Steve Argyle
Blind boy. Naïve youth,
Vainly seeking love, does not
See the offered gift.
Rejection. The feel
Of banana peel between
My teeth. Bitterness.
Moonlight on a curve,
Rounder now than years agone.
Still feels like new silk.
It's not your body I
Want, it's your libido I
Crave. Please crave me back.
Your unused hairbrush,
Inert, echoes the empty
Bed while you're away.
[We had such fun writing limericks during
Halloween season 2000 that Steve & I decided to try haiku for Valentine's day
2001. Haiku is a Japanese poetry form. It consists of 3 lines: the first line contains 5 syllables, the second line contains 7 syllables, and
the third line contains 5 syllables. These poems were created singly and emailed back and forth
for several days preceding February 14th.]
