Background Information for

Sandy Robb Gyll's Port Royal Memoirs

[Notes by Steve Argyle]

Once I asked Jamaica Rose what sort of thing she would like to have to fill the holes in her magazine,  No Quarter Given. She told me she had a need for very short humorous pieces. The Port Royal Anecdotes were the result. The Drunken Mermaid Tavern, Mother Rackett, and other references come straight from the pirate milieu created by the Port Royal Privateers, the pirate reenactment group to which Rose belongs.  Port Royal Anecdote was published in the March 2003 issue of No Quarter Given.   Sweating the Captives was published in the September 2004 issue, and A Rivalry Between Shipmates was published in the November 2004 issue.

I must give a nod of acknowledgement to Rick Norwood, whose delightful little stories opened my eyes to the art of the set up.
