Final CrystalOak Fairy

Sarah writes:

Born and raised in Utah, I have always enjoyed things related to fantasy. My aunts influenced my choice to become an artist through their own fantasy art. From the time I was a child I always admired their work, and hoped to be able to create something similar someday.

I was often discouraged as I grew. The things I drew on paper did not look at all like the beautiful images I could see in my head.  I just could not seem to get my hand and mind to work together.  My mother would tell me that the only way to become like my aunts would be to practice. She kept saying I should never give up just because it was hard and took a long time. Even though I hated to hear that annoying line, "Practice makes perfect", I listened to my mother and now I thank her endlessly for her encouragement. Finally, after approximately 20 years of trying, I feel that my hand and mind are at last in almost perfect harmony.

I joined a community of amateur artists called Elfwood on the Internet in 1998, and I have received much exposure from my association with them. Through the net I have completed many commissioned art pieces and sold many prints of my existing art.  I have also recently created a "Wizards & Dragons" coloring book which is doing well thus far.

I also have created a webpage where you can browse through my art and buy my products: http://www.QualityArtSource.com.

My hope is to rekindle the dreams which most people lose as they age. I wish to be an encouragement and example for beginning artists who are just now taking up the pencil, and perhaps even for the ones who have been practicing for years. I desire to help others reach a state where they can express themselves on paper as I do, to share their dreams and imaginations with others for the benefit of all.

I now live in American Fork, Utah, with my husband and young daughter Sabrina. I spend most of my days enjoying my family, writing pages in my fantasy trilogy, creating art pieces (either for my own enjoyment, or on assignment) while watching a favorite movie (The Last Unicorn, Willow, Lord of the Rings, etc.) or listening to classical music, Sarah Brightman, or Enya. I also enjoy designing and sewing fantasy fashions for myself or the 16in. fashion dolls I customize to sell on eBay.  I like to spend time on role-playing computer games with my husband while the baby is napping.

On one point I differ with my mother.  Practice never makes perfect. For as you practice, you will discover that no matter how expert you become at something, there is always room for improvement. You will never know what talents you have been blessed with until you have spent the time and effort to really try them out. You cannot say you have tried something until you have passed several (often closer to one hundred) failures before giving up. If you are not willing to wade through the discouragement and frustration to reach your goal, your dream will sink down into the depths never to be shared. Let yourself discover the gift that is within you.  Do not hold yourself back with thoughts of 'It is too hard', 'I am not good enough', or 'I cannot do it'. If you want to badly enough, you can do anything.
