Helicopter Skiing
With Wasatch Powderbirds, January 8, 2004

Segment 1:  Helicopter Landing Zone

It's a thrill like no other.  A test, a challenge, a dream come true.  David Lee brought along a small hand camcorder and filmed our group while we were helicopter skiing in Big & Little Cottonwood Canyon on January 8, 2004.  I've cropped out just enough so that you can get a taste of one run:  A helicopter pickup, ride, and drop; then the long sweet plunge through frozen fire.  If you have a high-speed internet connection, take a look!

We're already well into our ski day.  Gathered on the landing pad after a long sweet run we await the helicopter.  Our skis are off and strapped together.  As the helicopter approaches, we kneel and cover our faces with one hand, holding hats & goggles on.  The other hand holds our skis flat on the ground.  If anything ends up in the helicopter blades the day comes to a sudden and unpleasant end!

It will take several minutes for each video clip to load.  When it does, the icon above will expand to a screen and the clip will play.
